The Cotswolds with Pam Ayres on SBS – In this new series, poet Pam Ayres will go beyond the picture postcard images and use her local knowledge to reveal both the familiar and the not so familiar gems of one of Britain’s most beautiful areas – The Cotswolds.
From grand country estates to time-honoured businesses, Pam’s fascinating journey will uncover some of the hidden treasures and little-known facts about the Cotswolds and she’ll meet the people who, like her, love to call it their home.
Episode One:
In the opening leg of Pam’s tour of the Cotswolds, she starts off in the picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water.
It’s here Pam soaks up the scenery that attracts thousands of tourists every year – along with a Cotswold cream tea – before visiting Andy Wallington’s antique shop, and then a world famous perfurmery that’s made scents for the Queen.
From Bourton Pam heads to Oxfordshire and to one of Britain’s grandest palaces – Blenheim. Here she learns about Sir Winston Churchill’s connection to the stately home, tours the formal gardens created by Capability Brown and discovers the secrets of the estate’s ancient oak woodland.
