Sex: A Bonkers History on SBS – Sex: A Bonkers History follows Amanda Holden (Britain’s Got Talent) and bestselling author and Historian Dan Jones as they explore how sexual behaviours through the ages have shaped civilizations in ways we are only now beginning to discover.

From the hidden meanings embedded in the Kama Sutra and the sexual demands of Spartan men and women, to the secret sex clubs of the Georgians, Amanda and Dan throw themselves into immersive history to highlight how attitudes towards sex and sexuality have evolved over time and what it tells us about our ancestors.

Episode One: The Ancients

Dan and Amanda look at how attitudes towards sex differ drastically before the intervention of Christianity. Kicking off the episode in ancient Sparta, Amanda trains as an ancient Spartan woman, with British Olympic medallist weightlifter Emily Campbell.

Dan Jones travels to the Chelsea physic garden to make the ancient Egyptian equivalent of viagra and follows an ancient recipe for Egyptian spermicide. Amanda then gets to grips with the Kama Sutra to find out how it has influenced tantric sex today.
