My Way on Channel 9 – Tune in for scrumptious food, beaut beer and a sweet taste of Sunshine Coast history on My Way, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Viewers meet Matt “Hep” Hepburn and Christian McGarry, the guys behind Your Mates Brewing at Warana. What started as a conversation about life in their garage 10 years ago has turned into a brewery supplying craft beer around the country and a ripper “BowlsPub”, a cross between a pub and a bowling club where people flock to share yarns, have a coldie and play barefoot bowls.

Dairies

Next stop is one of Queensland’s best known dairies, run by husband and wife Ross and Sally Hopper. Ross, who grew up in a multi-generational farming family, took over the farm with Sally, and now Maleny Dairies opens up to the public for tours, tastings, and the chance to feed a calf. It allows the Hoppers to make a living from their guests and raise awareness of small-scale farmers who’ve been doing it tough through deregulation of the dairy industry.

Then we get a taste of some rich Australian history at Buderim Ginger. Allan Templeton, who was one of the first to own a truck in the area, was offered some ginger cuttings while delivering sawdust during the Second World War. He began to grow ginger and that opened up a domestic and international market. The Templeton family are still there, and we trace their connection with that visionary ginger pioneer of the 1940s.

Finally, meet Pavo and Heidi Walker, who live by the motto “from bait straight to the plate”. Walker Seafoods trade on the superb quality of their catch, which has put their name on the menu of Neil Perry’s Rockpool, one of Australia’s top restaurants. Pavo and Heidi help viewers understand what goes into catching their export-grade produce: weeks of isolation out at sea and long, harsh days on the fishing trawler.
